Toko Fukawa vs Seven (Danganronpa vs Scissor Seven) VS Prediction Blog

"Swing your razor wide, Sweeney! Hold it to the skies! Freely flows the blood of those who moralize!"

Toko Fukawa, the Ultimate Writing Prodigy with a murderous double life from Danganronpa
Seven, the titular amnesiac assassin/barber of Scissor Seven

When it comes to one being willing to kill, there are plenty of issues which could lead to one thinking of it. For these two, their murderous sides were rather literal, as they both possessed alternate personalities which were more willing to kill than their standard, more quirky selves, which were formed partly as a response to their rough pasts they’d rather not talk about. Though bonds they made later would help to abate this side of themselves, they can still be dangerous opponents to face, thanks to both wielding the somewhat simple weapon of basic scissors. So, which of these demon barbers would be able to cut down the other until their sweet relief of death? Let’s find out.

Before We Begin

For Toko, I’ll be looking at the first 2 games, Ultra Despair Girls, the Danganronpa 3 anime, the various spin off manga and light novels, and the various adaptations of the above, such as the anime and manga. Though I’m not going to include anything from Danganronpa V3, as without going too far into spoilers, the game’s ambiguous ending makes its place in the canon timeline hard to lock down for certain, which also makes the idea of her scaling to anything from it questionable, and nothing from it would really impact the match much regardless. I’m also not including crossover scaling from her appearances in stuff like Chain Chronicle or Divine Gate.

As for Seven, this will be a bit simpler. I’ll be looking at all the seasons of the Scissor Seven series, along with some supporting material from the Killer Seven and Black and White Twin Dragons spinoff mahua (for those unfamiliar that’s just what Chinese comics are called) and maybe some other material you may not expect.

Also spoiler alert for both series, as this will be freely discussing some later plot twists associated with these two, so stay wary if you want to be blind.

Background

Toko / Jack

“Don't get your blood on my glasses. I'm the Cinderella of the slaughter flower garden!”

From the start, Toko Fukawa did not live a particularly happy life. Her birth was a messy affair, as she was one of two kids born to different mothers under the same father. After the other child died, the two women refused to figure out which one was whose, leaving Toko to grow up with two mothers who equally despised her. Her childhood was full of neglect with her one loved one being a pet stink bug, which ended up shaping Toko into a neurotic girl with low self esteem.

This would only worsen once she was in school, as she ended up the target of bullying and harassment, especially from those she tried to start relationships with. Though after one of these ended with a lovestruck letter shown to the entire school, her teacher ended up encouraging her to go into writing, which caused her to begin writing romance novels. She’d quickly find a lot of success despite her young age, earning multiple awards and constantly topping the best selling list. This would catch the attention of Hope's Peak Academy, a school for extremely gifted youth, which would invite her to join their student body as the Ultimate Writing Prodigy.

Toko would end up caught up in the drama of the school, something which quickly spiraled into a very bad event involving a mass suicide, brainwashing videos, and some pink haired girl named Junko obsessed with despair and trying to make everyone feel that. As such, she ended up sealed within the school and part of a killing game. During this, she’d end up growing a one sided crush on Byakuya Togami, a wealthy heir to a large company, who did not reciprocate her feelings at all. However, the killing game did end up bringing something else within Toko to the surface.

You see, due to her upbringing being incredibly traumatic, Toko would end up developing some issues that were a bit deeper than low self esteem. In fact, she had ended up developing Dissociative Identity Disorder as early as elementary school, with her negative thoughts eventually manifesting into a very murderous alternate personality. This side of her would end up murdering the first boy which had rejected Toko, which started a spree of murders that were attributed to Genocide Jack. (She was also referred to as Genocide Jill in the first game’s dub and Genocide Syo in the original Japanese, but given Jack is the most commonly used name within the dub and fan discussions, I’ll be sticking to using that to refer to her from here on out)

Toko was initially fearful of Jack, and part of her being so withdrawn was due to this fear. However, after Byakuya staged the death of someone who’s gender I will not state out of fear to make it look like Jack killed them, Toko ended up being forced to be more open with her other self. The two would end up surviving the killing game and make it to the outside world, where the Future Foundation was attempting to bring the population of Earth back to normal after the above-mentioned despair spiraling. However, given her murderous side, the Foundation wasn’t as trusting towards Toko, which led to her finding a way to better control Jack, and the two managed to swear to their precious Byakuya that Jack would not murder again.

Eventually, Toko and Byakuya would end up journeying to Towa City, which was housing several loved ones of the Killing Game members as hostages by Junko’s cohorts. However, this ended up turning into a trap, as said cohorts, a group of children calling themselves the Warriors of Hope, would take over the city with an army of Monokuma drones, kidnapping Byakuya in the process. Stranded without access to the Future Foundation, Toko would end up finding a girl named Komarus Naegi, who was the sister of the main guy that stopped the killing game, Makoto Naegi, and the two formed an uneasy alliance.

Initially these two bickered quite a bit, mainly due to Toko not liking Komaru’s more trusting nature, something she saw as naive. There was a healthy bout of self hate involved, as Toko had genuinely grown to believe she wasn’t someone that anyone could care for. But the two would end up forming an odd friendship, as Komaru was seemingly giving Toko the first genuine friendship in her life. While she had initially planned to exchange Komaru as a hostage for Byakuya, eventually she backed down from this deal upon realizing she had grown to care for Komaru as much as her beloved Byakuya, and she’d spend much of their other time trying to get her to mature and be better, in her own way.

Eventually, after the two managed to stop the big plan of the leader of the Warriors of Hope, Monaca, the two ended up staying in Towa City for a while, to help protect and sleep the peace in the city. Toko was even willing to separate from Byakuya to help Komaru, and the two stayed side by side until the last remnant of despair had been stopped. And Jack had also softened thanks to this bond, with her seemingly calming down on the whole “murdering” thing and choosing to fight for good. All that said, she’s still just as dangerous a foe to face, and she has claimed she’d still want to kill if she needs to, so you better hope you don’t end up on her bad side, lest you learn the true meaning of a “killing school life”.

Seven

"I'm not a Shadow Killer like you are. I am... the super scissors of Chicken Island!"

On a small island to the corner of a map known as Chicken Island, there were many odd people running around, whether that be walking legs, an old lady who took advantage of people, and many others. Among them was a 21 year old young man raised by a talking chicken who had forgotten his past, who by day was a simple barber offering good haircuts. However, by night he was a deadly assassin, using his tools of trade as a tool of murder. At least he would be if he was more consistently good at killing things. He was known simply as Seven.

Seven had been working under a bird by the name of Dai Bo, who claimed to be an old friend of Seven’s from before his amnesia. However, Dai had actually found Seven washed up on the shore one day, and he had no real idea where the young man had come from. Seven wouldn’t either, at least until a mysterious girl known as Thirteen identified a charm he had which gave him his name as part of the infamous Killer League, the most dangerous group of assassins in the world. Intrigued, Seven would make it his goal to become a well respected assassin in order to be noticed by this league for answers.

Despite his choice of profession, Seven would end up making friends with many of his targets, due to him inadvertently solving their personal problems instead of killing them. However, everything would change when Seven was forced to defend the island from the technologically advanced Prince of Stan and his mechanical army. While Seven would keep him at bay for a time, he would ultimately be knocked unconscious by the invader’s might. This ended up awakening something in him, as he suddenly received a flash of an old life and skills. Using this, he’d drive off the Prince’s forces, before the effort ended with him once again falling. While he wasn’t sure what had happened, this turned out to be his first recollection of his past self as Killer Seven.

Originally a prodigy in murder, he was taken into the Killers League and despite being only 15, quickly became appointed as one of the Shadow Killers, who were the best assassins in the organization. He quickly became feared for both his skill and his cold stoicism in killing, as he believed an assassin shouldn’t get involved in other’s affairs or show emotion.

This would last for a bit, at least before he met a Girl in White, who was targeted by the League. Something about her struck a chord with him, and for the first time in his life he actually felt care for another person. This shook him so badly he ended up turning his back on his philosophy and organization to save her life, becoming branded as a traitor in the process. He’d been on the run with her for a time, only for a moment in which they were surrounded by killers ended with the girl quite literally stabbing him in the back to save herself. He’d end up falling into a river and be presumed dead by his former comrades, but in reality he had washed up on the shore of Chicken Island, without memory of this life.

After learning of this, Seven would feel a bit conflicted about his past. While he had lost his memory and killer instinct, this had given him a chance to get a new lease on life, getting many friends and bonds. As such, he’d ultimately grow to accept his past and other half, opting to use his skills not to assassinate, but to defend those he cared about. As such, when the Killers League ended up sending assassins to the island to finish him off, he’d leave the island on his own to go find the leaders of the Killers League and get them to leave his new life alone.

This journey would take a bit due to various detours, but eventually, Seven would end up getting attacked by the previously mentioned Thirteen, who would poison him with a black ice dagger under orders. However, she still felt a connection to him, and would end up protecting him from assassins as he ended up fighting the poison’s effects on his mind. While at the time of this writing he is still in this state, as this is an ongoing series, whenever he wakes up, all the too long hairlines and killer assassins alike better look out, as despite his change of heart, he is still a deadly killer to any who would threaten his way of life.

Intelligence & Skill

Toko / Jack

Toko Fukawa herself is fairly intelligent when it comes to literacy, as her title implies. Books she has written were constant best sellers and earned many awards, with one of her romance novels, So Lingers the Ocean, being such a huge hit that it managed to shoot fishermen to the top of all the "Hottest Men" polls singlehandedly. While she’s also a bit of a coward and can be squeamish around blood, she’s still pretty driven, often confronting people who give up and not try to defend themselves as cowards. Though in terms of a fight, she tends to let her alternate self do more of the fighting, she’s still got enough awareness to let Komaru take the lead in fighting when Jack isn’t in use, and was able to give her hints on how to solve several puzzles over the course of Ultra Despair Girls.

Genocide Jack, on the other hand, is far more skilled as a fighter. She’s typically able to tear through hordes of Monokuma drones on her own, and she was able to help take on the Warriors of Hope’s mechs and the giant Big Bang Monokuma. She was skilled enough as a killer to have killed at least 37 people and get away with it, stumping detectives all around the world in the process. And that’s just the ones they knew about, as there were some even believing her true kill count was in the thousands. Though she does also have the awareness to hold back on killing, as when she was caught up in the first game’s Killing Game, she opted not to murder anyone due to recognising that attempting to murder someone in her usual way in such a situation would be found out immediately.

Later, during the business in Towa City, Jack was able to act as force to be reckoned with, often tearing through hordes of the Monokuma drones with little effort, and helping to take down the mech armors piloted by the Warriors of Hope. She was able to make her way around the city on her own for some sections, and she’s notably the only character in the entire series to have successfully stopped an execution. She was even able to take down the gigantic Big Bang Monokuma, something especially notable given it was later revealed to have been piloted by the AI clone of Junko Enoshima herself.

And while she does seem like she doesn’t care for strategy, she has shown herself to be skilled if the situation calls for it. Most notably, in the alternate universe story Danganronpa IF, she got in a tussle with Sakura Ogami, who was respected as the most skilled martial artist in the world with over 400 wins to her name. And Sakura’s skill wasn’t just talk, as later in that story she was able to keep up with Mukuro Ikusaba, a skilled mercenary who had been in numerous combat situations without getting injured once. In Jack’s fight with her, she recognised that she would have no chance of beating Sakura in a fair fight, and yet Jack was able to stalemate her for almost 10 minutes straight by focusing on dodging, and only lost due to Byakuya stepping in. While this is an alternate story, this does still show she has enough skill to keep up with foes even if they eclipse her in experience.

Seven

Before the loss of his memories, Seven was a fairly ruthless killer. He had become one of the Shadow Killers, a group of the most elite killers of the Killers League, at just the age of 15, and while his colleagues initially assumed he had gotten there out of nepotism, he quickly proved to be a skilled assassin, ultimately managing to take on many of them after betraying his code.

After losing these memories and becoming a denizen of Chicken Island, Seven would become a lot more carefree in his work, with him often utilizing various weird and unconventional techniques. While this does make him come off as someone not to be taken seriously, he’s still a skilled fighter when the situation calls for it, often coming toe to toe with other skilled killers. While he does bungle many of his assanation missions, this is mainly due to his hesitation to kill others, something that he’s willing to put aside if the situation calls for it.

Initially, Seven was blind to his past and was able to tap into his older self as an alternate personality in times of stress. However, after accepting his past at the end of Season 2, the two halves of himself would merge, essentially meaning there’s no real separation between them anymore.

Equipment

Toko / Jack

Genoscissors

Jack’s main weapons of choice, these are custom made scissor blades of her making which she tends to keep hidden in a holster on her right leg. Despite the seemingly small amount of scissors this should logically contain, she has shown the ability to pull out a seemingly never ending supply of them. They’re also surprisingly versatile weapons, as she’s used them just to slash and stab as melee weapons, toss them around as throwing weapons, and separate them to make a pair of blades. They’re also strong enough to support the weight of a person and pin them to a wall. Somehow.

Taser

Mainly utilized by Toko, this is an electric taser which she typically uses on herself to swap to her other, more physically capable self (more on that later). Beyond that, Toko has also used it defensively, mainly to help protect Komaru from being killed by Monokuma drones by knocking them back. In the final fight, she also used it to overcharge Komaru’s hacking gun to shoot a big hacking bullet thing that defeated the Big Bang Monokuma, so she could presumably use it to overload other electronics.

In her boss fight, Jack was seemingly capable of using it on herself to extend her time limit manually, so that could be useful as a way to keep herself in the fight. However, that fight also shows the gun is vulnerable to being hacked, and otherwise it relies on a limited battery charge, meaning if it runs out Toko loses her easy way to bring out Jack.

Monokuma Bottle

A bottle containing a small Monokuma statue holding a chess piece. Jack used this once to assault Sakura when she was seemingly about to attack her. It probably wouldn’t be at all deadly in a fight, as well as being something she doesn’t really have access to, and it might not even be something Jack would use again considering her preference for using her scissors, but I wanted an excuse to edit with these panels so here you go.

Seven

Scissors

Seven’s main weapon, this is a seemingly ordinary pair of scissors which Seven can turn into a deadly weapon thanks to the use of Qi, which will be gone over later. He’s capable of quite a few tricks with them, whether that be splitting them in half, making them spin at up to 5000 RPM while drawing in wind, and even restoring them after they’ve been shattered to pieces.

Thousand Demon Dagger

Killer Seven’s weapon of choice, this is a legendary blade made up of a thousand razor sharp bits of iron originally part of an armor, and is said to be impossible to block if wielded right. Seven had originally gained it by beating the evil spirit guarding it when he was just 16, and while he isn’t quite as skilled with it in his present state as he was in the past, he still shows a lot of creativity in its use.

Xiao Fei

This is a small squishy chicken guy that acts as Seven’s partner. He can fly and is strong enough to carry Seven while flying, which Seven has used as transportation and as a mobility tool in a fight. He can also be tossed as a distraction, block out sound based attacks, and might have a healing ability, though it is a bit unclear. He can also transform into a super buff form which is absurdly strong, but can be run out due to over exerting his “sexy energy”, rendering him exhausted. Don’t question it.

Gaiba Egg

This is a set of eggs made by Xiao Fei that Seven can toss at himself to take the appearance of a variety of objects and animals. There is practically no limit to what he can turn into, whether the object be as large as a telephone pole, as small as a leaf, or as unlikely as his opponent's very weapon. Though when he makes an attack, the disguise will go away, and the disguises tend to still have his distinguishing features as a part of them, and he can’t get any special abilities from other forms (aside from fish being able to breathe underwater for some reason). While this is mainly used for sneak up on targets ahead of time, he has used it as a way to open opportunities for a sneak attack mid fight.

Hair Wax No. 7

Invented by Dai Bo, this is a small blade launcher disguised as a pomade, which is designed to shoot a blade directly into the target's heart in order to kill them instantly. It’s also possibly bulletproof.

Knockout Spray

A spray made by Dai Bo, which is able to knock out whoever inhales it just by breathing it.

Overlord OPPO K9 Scissors

This is a smart phone which is able to transform into a high tech pair of scissors which he can seemingly manipulate like his normal pair. They might have some other function, but given they only exist in a questionably canon ad for a smartphone, it’s kind of unclear.

OPPA Glider

From the same questionably canon advertisement, this is a high tech glider which he was able to use to descend safely from a plane high in the air.

Abilities

Toko / Jack

Alter Swapping

Toko and Jack share the same mind as alternate personalities, and while they don’t share memories with each other, they do share general knowledge and emotions they feel towards others. While they usually don’t seem to have the ability to talk with each other directly, there have been some moments showing whichever personality is in the backseat can sense what’s going on with the dominant personality to an extent.

They are able to swap between themselves in several different ways. These swaps tend to last indefinitely until something comes up to trigger the swap again. The most common method seen is that whenever one of them sneezes, they swap. Usually it happens due to something random irritating their senses, but Toko has shown the ability to sneeze on command if she needs to. They can also swap if one of them slips into unconsciousness, whether that be due to fainting or getting knocked out by being hit in the head. Finally, by zapping herself in the head with her taser, Toko can bring out Jack on command, though using this method only works for a limited time before she ends up swapping back.

Agility

While Toko’s stamina can leave quite a bit to be desired, Genocide Jack has generally shown an almost cartoonish amount of sheer agility. She can flip around quickly, spin around fast enough to look like a drill, and has generally moved fast enough to blitz many other characters in her world while looking like a blur. In a most notable instance, she was also able to jump from the ground to a monorail four stories up that was moving 35 miles per hour without a running jump.

Enhanced Senses

Jack also has a surprisingly good sense of smell, being able to recognise objects which were used by people and tracking them through locations. Gross.

Slash Lust

As she defeats enemies, Jack slowly builds up a gauge which she can use to unleash several devastating special moves, which are able to do massive damage to any unfortunate enemies in her way. There’s two tiers of these attacks, the first which only targets a single enemy while costing one unit of the gauge, while the second can target up to 5 enemies while costing 3 units. She can also maintain up to 5 units at a time. These moves include:

4th Wall Awareness

Both Toko and Jack have had multiple instances of saying things which lean on the 4th wall a bit. Toko has referenced game design tropes and criticized annoying design choices, while Jack has commented on how overused the “crazy split personality” trope is, and has pointed out certain absurdities in game mechanics.

Exorcism

At one point in Ultra Despair Girls, Komaru ends up encountering and gets possessed by the ghost of Takuichi Towa, and after a bit of back and forth, Toko seemingly managed to exorcise the spirit. While Toko did write off the incident as a delusion of Komaru due to not believing in ghosts, the spirit did say things about Takuichi’s past which Komaru couldn’t have known at the time, implying it was an actual ghost Toko did an exorcism on. Whether or not she would try this again is another question, due to the aforementioned not believing in ghosts, but it is still something to consider.

Seven

Qi Manipulation

A traditional form of Chinese spiritual energy coming from one’s self, which is more commonly known by its romanization of Chi. Seven can utilize this energy in a telekinetic martial art, which is how he and other assassins can manipulate their blades. He has been able to use it to control the directions his scissors travel, extend the length of his blades, form barriers, and form weapons for others. He’s also shown the ability to fire off energy blasts, though this was more involuntary, as it was in response to being poisoned.

Power Mimicry

Seven has shown the skill to pick up and replicate fighting techniques from other fighters just by observing them, as seen with several below.

Solid as Gold Seven-Day Lock

A wrestling move learned from the bodyguard He Dachun, this is a hold which is designed to be completely unbreakable to escape for a week straight. No, not exaggerating, though unlike Dachun, Seven can release it whenever he wants. While it makes the target’s movements difficult, it also can leave Seven somewhat vulnerable, as he was unable to copy Dachun’s invulnerability which is what made it truly unbreakable. This means he tends to use it as a way to keep a target stationary enough to hit with his scissors, like in his fight with the Prince of Stan.

Thumbs Up Kick

This is a specialized kick he also managed to pick up, which aims for a pressure point at his opponent’s armpit and can be used to temporarily stun foes.

Enhanced Senses

Seven has been stated to have senses as keen as a wild beast's, and this has let him keep up with foes pretty often. Most notably, he was able to hear someone talking to themself despite being on a boat a bit away from them.

4th Wall Awareness

As you might expect from a show with so much weirdness, Scissor Seven has played around with the 4th wall quite a bit for various gags.  Seven himself has done many of these, such as mentioning later seasons having more dangerous foes, acknowledging when flashbacks are going to happen, and other stuff.

Weaknesses

Toko / Jack

The two’s most obvious weakness is Toko herself. She’s cowardly, impulsive, hates herself, has gotten exhausted just by running short distances, and is clearly not as capable in a fight as Jack. This is an issue in that many of the methods used to swap into Jack are also things that can swap her back to Toko if they come up for Jack, which could hurt in the middle of a battle. And while her taser method does offer a more controlled way of swapping, it also relies on a limited battery which can make the switch last up to just a couple minutes at a maximum, and Toko has claimed overusing this method could potentially fry her brain.

As for Jack, while she is a lot more physically capable, she’s also pretty crazy and has had a tendency to rush through like a madwoman without caring for strategy, along with generally not taking situations that seriously. She also can be a bit picky in regards to humans she ends up actually killing, as she only wants to kill boys who she’s attracted to and in her specific method, though she has made an exception for robots which she sees as toys.

Seven

Killer Seven was a skilled assassin, but after his near death and amnesia, he’d end up becoming a good deal less competent, as while he can be skilled if the situation calls for it, he’s also got a tendency to be clumsy, impulsive, gullible, and can have some skewed priorities when it comes to girls. Additionally, he does have an issue in regards to killing, though he has put it aside for the sake of self defense. Finally, while his scissors can be versatile, they have a tendency to be disabled through simple things like a weapon swinging on them, a wave of water, or a fish eating them.

Before the Verdict

Wait Danganronpa Stats are this high?

Now, to the unfamiliar, you may be a bit surprised at how high Danganronpa stats have gotten here. The G1 team went over much of the reasoning behind these stats in their take on Korosensei vs Monokuma, which I personally find reasonable and buy, but in the interest of brevity, I would advise those curious on the full explanation to give their blog a look here. To give a more brief summary of the relevant points:

  • The Big Bang Monokuma being sent into the sky is an amount of force the head had to endure by virtue of surviving the impact of the landing undamaged, as well as launching in the first place due to being hacked and ejecting, meaning it is something it should scale to. And the fact that Jack is able to physically damage the robot through said armor and take hits from it should logically mean she’s comparable to the feat herself.

  • While the EM Waves fired by the hacking gun do have some odd characteristics in comparison to the real deal while in gameplay, they are pretty consistently depicted as blasts which fully obey physics rules in cutscenes and the Danganronpa 3 anime, meaning their behavior while within gameplay is likely more down to gameplay mechanics/stylization and doesn’t discount them being full light speed projectiles.

  • For both of the above points, the multiple kiloton level feats and multiple instances of characters being able to dodge these EM waves respectively mean both feats are pretty consistent and are not to be written off as outliers.

  • At one point in the Danganronpa: Togami light novels, Sakura manages to move from Japan to Prague in an instant, which could give another relativistic feat. However, not only are these novels pretty questionable in their canonicity, within context she used a specific technique called Shukuchi to move between these spaces by warping space to cross that distance instantly while ignoring obstacles, meaning this particular instance is more comparable to teleporting and as such is not applicable as speed feat.

But isn’t Danganronpa full of normal humans anyways?

One common response to the stats of the universe being this high is to question why exactly the relatively grounded humans of this world are capable of this when the narrative typically treats everyone as normal dudes. To give an example, a big deal is made in the first game of how no one would be able to take down the metal sheets over the windows, which logically wouldn’t make sense if the “strongest fighter in the world” has stats that are this high. My one response to this stance is “No, that’s wrong.” For one thing, this particular example is also ignoring how the academy was specifically modified to be an impenetrable bunker to the outside near apocalypse, meaning I feel that’s not even an airtight anti-feat by its own logic, and I also feel it’d be fair to write it off as early installment weirdness anyways.

But to ignore that random strawman argument and actually acknowledge the broader point of this issue, yes it is true that the within main games characters tend to stick to what a relatively grounded human could accomplish. However, this is mainly for the sake of the mysteries being solvable to the audience, as a lot of the extended media of the series has shown many cases of the characters accomplishing feats that are far above an average human, as the stat lists show. Even Nagisa, a child with no real implied superior strength, could move an object heavier than what an average human adult can, and Komaru Naegi, who is repeatedly noted to be “completely average” and not anything special physically speaking in universe, was fast enough to dodge a point blank EM wave and able to survive attacks from the Big Bang Monokuma. So there is simply no reason to assume a few anti-feats are enough to outweigh the many instances of above human limits, therefore meaning there’s no reason to assume these feats to be outliers.

Verdict

Stats

So comparing the two on a physical level, let’s first go over power. Both have plenty of instances which compare on the lower end, with various casual instances of wall to building level strength in both power and durability. However, it’s when you bring up the two’s higher ends that the comparison becomes rather clear-cut. Seven’s best display of strength would be scaling to the Stan robot’s ability to move the gem within Chicken Island. He should definitely be able to scale to this, as he was able to one shot the machine that was doing it, and at his peak is demonstrably above the other technology of the Prince of Stan. This attack, and by proxy Seven, clocks in at a rather impressive 7 kilotons.

However, Jack’s peaks were a level beyond this. There was of course the higher end for the Big Bang Monokuma’s launch into orbit, which clocks in at an impressive 2.3 megatons. For context, that’s 2300 kilotons, meaning it’s over 300 times stronger than Seven’s best feat. Now this particular value, while not exactly unsupported, is still a bit higher than other big feats from the series, so for the sake of the argument let’s discount the higher value. To go over the other higher ends for Jack, there’s Takumi’s building slice at a little under 1 kiloton, Nekomaru’s big shit at 78 kilotons, Mukuro’s kinetic energy at 170 kilotons, and the other big calcs for the Big Bang Monokuma at 67 kilotons for its kinetic energy and 174 kilotons for the lower end of it’s cloud dispersal. The last of which is still about 25 times stronger than Seven’s best attack. So, yeah, Jack definitely has the edge in power and durability.

Now as for speed, and similarity, both have plenty of comparable feats at the lower end, with bullet dodging, dealing with unconventional projectiles, and blitzing around people galore. And both of their peaks are potentially in the relativistic range, thanks to dodging projectiles that can be seen as light speed, that being the Hacking Gun’s EM waves and the Ugly Master’s mirror reflections. Both projectiles move at the speed of light and are treated as realistic enough sources to be seen as valid sources for light timing, which might make it seem like they’d have relatively close speed. When breaking these instances down, Seven’s dodging would require him to react at about 0.056 times the speed of light, which is certainly impressive. However, even a basic Shield Monokuma drone could react to another light speed projectile at about .15 times the speed of light, or about 3 times faster than Seven. Keep in mind this is one of many generic robots which Jack is fully capable of wiping out en masse, meaning she is definitely superior to it.

More impressively would be Komaru’s own dodging of the projectile at about .81-1.07 times the speed of light, whom Jack is also physically superior to, and which would be 14.5 - 19 times faster than Seven depending on the end. I could even bring up potentially scaling to Nagisa’s mech, which is able to move 4.4 times faster than light, and therefore is nearly 80 times faster than Seven, but that’s a bit more questionable in my opinion so I won’t rely on it. You might be wondering why these relatively similar instances can hit such different numbers, and well, that’s down to the feats themselves. Komaru’s dodging of the hacking gun was of it at near point blank range, whereas Seven had a bit more of a distance between him and the mirror, meaning he had more space for the beam to travel before he needed to dodge, and therefore was reacting just a bit slower. So Jack also gets the speed edge.

Overall, while the two can compare quite a bit on their lower ends, Jack’s higher feats absolutely blow Seven’s out of the water, meaning she’s the one to get the stat category.

Arsenal & Abilities

Now to go over the two’s versatility, which is surprisingly something that sort of swings more in the opposite direction. In comparing their versatility with their scissors, while Jack’s endless supply of them would definitely give Seven some trouble, this is a bit of a quantity vs quality situation, as he generally shows a lot better versatility in using his scissors, as he’s been able to redirect them midthrow, split them to go in different directions, spin them fast enough to generate wind, and even reform them if they’re shattered, whereas Jack tends to just stick to slashing with them and tossing them around. Seven also has the edge in that he has plenty more tools to potentially use besides his scissors, such as his sword, which is as versatile a weapon as his scissors, Xiao Fei, who could give him a mobility edge or turn the fight to a 2v1 by going buff, the Gaiba eggs, which could give him a way to get the drop on her, or the knockout spray, which would allow him to swap the two’s personalities whenever he wanted. Meanwhile, all Jack has besides her scissors is a taser she tends to mainly use on herself and a bottle she used once on a girl that was regaining consciousness due to having already been smacked in the head with a different one. So Seven does take the edge in terms of the arsenal.

As for their more natural abilities, they can match each other pretty beat for beat on some of them, as both have enhanced senses which would help with tracking each other, both can create a massive amount of projectiles and can launch energy blasts, and both are able to break the 4th wall, though that last one obviously wouldn’t be a huge help in a fight. Though in terms of options the two don’t share, Seven is a bit better, as aside from the previously mentioned versatility offered by Qi, the Solid Gold Lock would hypothetically give him a way to lock her down for a potentially killer blow, and his endurance would potentially let him keep going for a bit. On the other hand, Jack’s agility is countered by Seven’s access to flight, and Toko’s exorcism is unlikely to come into play in any way.

Speaking of Toko, the fact she can be swapped in from Jack is definitely going to be a potential hindrance, as she is a far less capable fighter than Jack can be. Seven would definitely be able to pick up on this if it comes up and try to take advantage of it, and the knockout gas gives a perfect avenue to exploit it, given getting knocked out is a common way of swapping the two. However, realistically speaking, he wouldn’t really have a solid way to take advantage of this in a way that would net him a win. Not only is Toko fully capable of swapping at will even without the stun gun, she should still be somewhat comparable to the feats Jack can do by virtue of being in the same body. Might seem odd, but it’s pretty consistently depicted that stamina is the only real difference the two have physically speaking, and other characters Toko herself could compare to still show plenty of absurd feats (I’ll reiterate, the “completely average” Komaru can dodge EM waves and tank town level punches). This means she’d definitely have the physical durability to survive any of Seven’s blows before she swaps back, at which point Jack would be unlikely to give him an easy way to go for a swap again.

So overall, while Seven does have the edge in sheer versatility, there’s not really anything he has in his bag of tricks which could really make up for the sheer stat gap.

Tertiary Factors

In terms of experience as a fighter, while both of them have been killing things since their childhoods, Seven should be taking the category thanks to being an active assassin and has generally kept up with a greater amount of versatile and weird fighters, whereas it was implied Jack’s targets before the events of the first game were just normal humans, and her later experience dealing with Monokuma drones amounts to a couple weeks to a month at most. That being said, Jack’s fight with Sakura in IF does show her to have the ability to keep up with foes that have far superior experience, meaning this isn’t necessarily a huge point in his favor.

In terms of skill, that’s a bit harder to nail down. Both have kept up with their fair shares of experienced fighters, and at their bests can be monsters in terms of combat. However, Seven does notably have a lot more instances of more questionable competence, given his many failings in assassin work. While he does have better competence whenever he feels the need to get serious, it’s still notable that he even needs to be serious for that to be true, as Jack is a monster that can tear through anything her path without really having much to stop her.

One last thing to mention is that after their character development the two do notably have some issues in regards to killing, but not only do Death Battles tend to ignore that kind of thing, even staying just to in-character motivation I feel both would certainly come to see each other as threats worth taking down over the course of the fight, so this is unlikely to be a massive hamper on either of their chances.

Conclusion

"To survive... You have to sacrifice something. Whether it's school or the outside world... It's all the same.”

Advantages:

  • Far stronger

  • Significantly faster

  • More generally competent

  • Jack is able to keep up with Seven skill wise

  • Danganronpa music

  • Tokomaru Friday

Disadvantages:

  • Definitely less skilled as Toko

  • Less versatile arsenal and abilities

  • Alternate personality swapping could prove inconvenient

  • Is in the same game as Haiji Towa, who fucking sucks

  • <Insert Danganronpa 3 insult here>

  • She doesn’t bathe, likes staying in her room, gets tired easily from any exercise, is really obnoxiously horny for a bad boy that she’ll never be with, and will literally kill you if you don’t agree with her on her obsession, meaning she’s just an average Danganronpa fan.

"I have to do this. I dare one of you to stop me"

Advantages:

  • More overall skilled as a fighter

  • More versatile arsenal and abilities which could be potentially devastating…

  • Doesn’t have to worry about alternate personality swapping

  • Scissor Seven animation

  • Actually got to be in a healthy relationship with his love interest

  • Is by far the hotter one…

Disadvantages:

Now, when breaking things down, on paper Seven surprisingly holds numerous advantages over Toko and Jack in areas besides the stats. He is the one with the superior arsenal, has better skill as a fighter, and has several abilities and equipment which could potentially be devastating towards his opponents. Hell, if this were an equal stat scenario, I’d probably say he’d be the more likely one to take the win…

…however, since this is including stats, these advantages would end up quickly not mattering. Jack’s far faster speed, far greater strength, and better killer instincts mean that, realistically speaking, Seven’s advantages aren’t going to come into play here. Seven simply isn’t going to have the speed to run away to disguise or spray her with knockout gas, the strength to hold her down with the lock for a critical blow, or just simply the time to do any sort of fancy plan before he ends up slashed to death. Unfortunately for Seven, Genocide Jack was simply several cuts above the rest.

The winner is Toko Fukawa and Genocide Jack

Next Time

Now the planned next time is this match, featuring two characters I’m confident most of you all haven’t heard of that I feel a bit passionate about.

Bob vs Black Mage

(Bob & George vs 8-Bit Theater)

But, if you’ve been following these for a bit, you might be remembering that I recently did a tourney for a fan picked match, and since we’re right at the midpoint of the “season” I’m doing for these blogs, now seems like a good time to get work on it started. And also I got a friend of mine to do a cool trailer for it, so without further ado, here it is…

Next Time…

(Credit to the fan animations used in it: [SFM] Literally me)

These two I’ll be working on, with specific priority given to the tourney winner. Whichever one of the two comes later will have the next time. All that said, thanks for reading this.
